Humane Sells AI Pin Platform to HP for $116 Million

US-based company Humane has announced that it is selling most of its company, including the AI Pin platform, to tech giant HP for $116 million. The sale marks the end of AI Pin, which was launched in April 2024 but received scathing reviews from critics. Despite initial hype, the device failed to gain traction in the market.

HP will acquire the Humane platform and team, bringing on more than 300 patents and patent applications. The company will also form a new division called HP IQ, focused on integrating artificial intelligence into its products and services.

AI Pin users can expect some features to continue working offline, but cloud connectivity options like voice interactions and AI responses will be discontinued after February 28th. Users with existing subscriptions past the shutdown date will receive prorated refunds.

The acquisition comes as a significant blow to Humane, which reportedly started looking for a buyer at a price of $1 billion shortly after the launch of AI Pin. Despite efforts to add new features and pivot towards an operating system, the device ultimately failed to gain popularity.
