Humane’s AI Pins Discontinue in 10 Days Due to Acquisition

AI hardware startup Humane is discontinuing its popular AI Pin product, which will stop working entirely on February 28. The company announced the sudden shutdown in just 10 days’ notice, citing a sale of its intellectual property to HP for $116 million.

Users have until February 27 to download any stored data, as Humane plans to permanently delete all remaining customer data at the same time as shutting down its servers. Refunds will be issued to customers within the 90-day return window, with users who opted for a replacement fire hazard and Charge Case receiving partial refunds.

The decision comes after HP acquired Humane, indicating that the company has no interest in its hardware business. The AI Pin was widely panned at launch, with many reviewers, including TechRadar, expressing disappointment over its lack of innovation.

HP will integrate Humane’s engineers into a new “AI innovation lab” focused on building an intelligent ecosystem across its products and services. However, the move has been met with skepticism from some, who question the relevance of acquiring a struggling hardware startup.
