Hungary Criticised by Ukraine Over “Baseless Accusations”

Tensions between Ukraine and Hungary have risen after Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi accused Budapest of spreading false information and demonizing President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The accusations come amid a war of words over comments made by Orbán, who was accused of being anti-Ukrainian.

Hungary remains the EU’s most pro-Russian member state, refusing to join Western sanctions against Russia. Ukraine claims that Hungary is withholding vital information from Kyiv about Russian troop movements, and that this has delayed Ukrainian military action. Zelenskyy has urged Hungary to provide more support for Ukraine’s war effort.

The situation highlights the deep divisions between Eastern European countries and Russia’s influence over them.
