I Spent The Weekend With GPT-4o Advanced Voice — It’s Even Better Than I Expected

I recently had the opportunity to spend the weekend with ChatGPT Advanced Voice, and I was blown away by its capabilities. As a paying user of ChatGPT Plus, I was able to access this advanced AI voice assistant before it becomes available to all users later this year.

One of the most impressive features of Advanced Voice is its ability to react to changes in direction. For example, I asked it to tell me a story about Paddington Train Station in London using a Yoda-like voice, and then interrupted it to ask it to count to 100 quickly. It seamlessly adapted to the change in topic and tone.

What struck me most was how human-like Advanced Voice is compared to other AI voice assistants I’ve tried. Speaking to it felt natural, and its voice reacted and adapted in tone and speed to my voice as we conversed.

Advanced Voice also excels at storytelling. Building on ChatGPT’s existing ability to write stories, this new feature allows for real-time adaptation and addition of voices, energy levels, and even sound effects. I asked it to tell me a story about the first humans on Mars discovering something unexpected, and it delivered with aplomb.

Beyond storytelling, Advanced Voice proved useful as a city guide, providing information about various sights and places in London. Its training dataset is recent enough that it was able to provide details about the Paddington Bear statue, the history of the train station, and even its unique architecture.

In another unexpected application, I used Advanced Voice as a personal trainer during my workouts. It provided guidance on stretching exercises, counting me down from 10 to show how long I should hold each position. It also offered healthy recipe ideas and motivational phrases to keep me going.

As I explored the capabilities of Advanced Voice over the weekend, I realized that I had barely scratched the surface of what’s possible with this technology. When it becomes available to all users, I have no doubt that it will revolutionize the way we interact with AI voice assistants.
