IBM Invests $150 Billion in US Manufacturing Over 5 Years

IBM has announced a significant investment of $150 billion in the United States over the next five years, with a focus on advancing American manufacturing of its mainframe and quantum computers. The company plans to allocate over $30 billion for this purpose. This move comes after US President Donald Trump unveiled a “reciprocal” tariff policy to boost manufacturing in the country.

The investment aims to accelerate America’s role as a global leader in computing and fuel the economy. IBM operates the world’s largest fleet of quantum computer systems, which it plans to continue building and assembling in the US. This effort is part of a growing trend among tech companies, including Nvidia, which announced its intention to manufacture AI infrastructure entirely in the US.

IBM’s announcement follows its strong first-quarter results, which saw revenue increase to $14.54 billion and net income fall to $1.06 billion per share. The company’s infrastructure division also reported higher-than-expected revenue of $2.89 billion for the quarter.
