‘Identified’: Nearly 40-Year-Old Skull Found in New Hampshire Woods Reunites with Family

A nearly 40-year-old skull found in the New Hampshire woods has been identified as that of Warren Kuchinsky. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner partnered with the DNA Doe Project to solve the case using forensic genetic genealogy techniques. Last year, investigators were unable to identify the skull’s owner due to lack of DNA evidence. However, through the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and a nonprofit organization, they were able to confirm Kuchinsky’s identity via DNA testing from a surviving family member. The investigation did not find any signs of foul play, suggesting that Kuchinsky likely died accidentally or as a result of natural causes.
