The Ministry of Minority Affairs has introduced the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, aimed at addressing long-standing issues in the management of Waqf properties. The bill seeks to improve transparency, safeguard heritage sites, and promote social welfare.
Key features of the bill include:
* Digitization of Waqf records to curb corruption
* Establishment of legal support centers for family disputes and inheritance rights
* Strengthening cultural preservation and interfaith dialogue
* Financial independence programs for Muslim women
* Scholarship schemes, healthcare, skill development, and vocational training initiatives
The bill also aims to empower marginalized communities by including representation from different sects in the State/UT Waqf Boards. The government has assured that no evictions will take place without consent.
By introducing these reforms, the Ministry of Minority Affairs seeks to establish a secular, transparent, and accountable system for Waqf administration.
