India has opened the world’s highest single-arch railway bridge, spanning 35m (114ft) above the Chenab river, in Indian-administered Kashmir. The bridge was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and marks the first time trains will connect the valley region with the rest of India.
The 272km all-weather railway line is a major infrastructure project that took over 20 years to complete. It will pass through Jammu before reaching the Kashmir valley, offering a new transportation link between the region and the country.
This ambitious project is part of India’s efforts to enhance connectivity in the region, improving access for locals and boosting economic development.
