Indiana basketball forward Malik Reneau has entered the transfer portal, leaving the team after a successful junior season. The 22-year-old played in 94 games and started 55, earning double-digit scoring performances in each of the last two years. Reneau led the team in scoring this season with 13.3 points per game.
The news comes just hours after Indiana named Darian DeVries as the new basketball coach. Reneau’s decision to leave was reportedly made after discussions with his family and despite Woodson letting him know he wasn’t starting before their recent win over Michigan State.
Reneau became a 1,000-point scorer in program history earlier this season, scoring a team-high 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting. He averaged 15.4 points per game this season and was part of IU’s decorated 2022 signing class.
Gabe Cupps also entered the transfer portal Tuesday morning, leaving Indiana without two players from that class. The news adds to speculation about the team’s roster changes after DeVries’ hiring.
