Indiana Fever Guard Caitlin Clark Returns to Action

Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham are expected to play for the Indiana Fever in Saturday’s game against the New York Liberty, coach Stephanie White said Friday after practice in Indianapolis. Clark has been out since May 26 with a quad strain, while Cunningham missed the team’s first two games due to an ankle injury.

Clark last played on May 24, posting 18 points and 10 assists in a loss to the Liberty. She credited her medical staff for helping with her recovery and tried to learn from the bench while she was out. White said Clark has progressively gotten better as she returned to practice and there is no regression expected.

Cunningham also seems ready to return, with White praising her timing and ability to change directions. The Fever will face a Liberty team trying to become the fourth team in WNBA history to open a season with at least 10 straight wins.

Guard DeWanna Bonner will not play due to personal reasons, but the Fever are supportive of her needs. Indiana is coming off its most lopsided loss of the season, having shot a season-worst 36.2% against Atlanta on Tuesday.
