Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham Out for Season with Knee Injury

The Indiana Fever’s woes continue as seven-year veteran Sophie Cunningham will miss the rest of the 2025 season due to a right knee injury. The injury occurred during Sunday’s 21-point comeback win over the Connecticut Sun. Cunningham collided with teammate Bria Hartley while trying to help on defense.

Cunningham had been averaging 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds, shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 43.2 percent from three-point range in her first season with the Fever. She entered the starting lineup after Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald suffered season-ending injuries.

The team has signed veteran point guard Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract, but Cunningham’s injury has dealt another blow. Indiana is still without Caitlin Clark, who has missed 13 games due to a groin injury. With nine games remaining in the regular season, the Fever sit sixth in the WNBA standings, 2.5 games ahead of ninth-place Los Angeles.

Despite the absences of primary ballhandlers, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston have had outstanding seasons. Mitchell is averaging a career-high 20.4 points and 3.4 assists, while Boston has posted career highs of 15.2 points and 3.6 assists. The Fever will need these players to perform at an even higher level to survive the challenging stretch ahead.
