Indy 500 Qualifying: Herta Rebounds, Armstrong Struggles

Colton Herta and Marcus Armstrong experienced crashes during qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 on Saturday. Despite the setbacks, both drivers were able to recover and secure their spots in the field.

Herta, who initially qualified with a car damaged from a crash in Turn 1, was quickly rebuilt by his team and safely entered the race. The 29th-place finisher expressed disappointment over not being able to contend for the pole position.

Armstrong, on the other hand, needed assistance after crashing during practice ahead of qualifying. His Meyer Shank Racing teammate Felix Rosenqvist secured a top-8 spot in the session, boosting Armstrong’s confidence going into Sunday’s shootout.

The 12 drivers who qualified in spots 1-12 will compete for the first four rows and potentially the pole on May 25. Meanwhile, Armstrong joins Marco Andretti, Rinus Veekay, and Jacob Abel in the last-chance shootout to secure a spot on the starting grid.
