A new app called Flashes, built on the Bluesky platform, is now available for download on iOS devices. Flashes offers a more minimalist alternative to Instagram, allowing users to share photos and videos without features like Stories, DMs, or shopping. Upon launching, users can log in with their existing Bluesky account or create a new one exclusively for Flashes.
The app’s interface features multiple tabs, including feeds, search, post creation, notifications, and profile management. While customizations are limited, users can apply filters to their posts and utilize custom feeds. However, this setup comes with drawbacks, such as receiving duplicate Bluesky notifications in both the main Bluesky app and Flashes.
Flashes is part of Bluesky’s goal to create a more customizable and portable social media experience. With over 30 million users, Bluesky has been expanding its moderation efforts, and Flashes design makes it possible for new accounts to also use the platform. This launch brings a fresh alternative to Instagram, providing users with a more streamlined image-sharing experience.
