Instagram Cracks Down on Live Streaming, Requires 1,000 Followers

Instagram has announced that users can no longer go live on the platform without having at least 1,000 followers in their public account. The move will affect smaller creators and regular users who previously could broadcast live without restrictions.

Starting now, a new notice will appear for users with less than 1,000 followers or private accounts, informing them that they are no longer eligible to use the Live feature.

The change aligns Instagram’s live feature with TikTok’s requirement of 1,000 followers. YouTube, on the other hand, requires only 50 subscribers for live streaming.

While Meta didn’t specify a reason for the change, it claims the move aims to enhance the overall Live consumption experience by discouraging lower-quality streams. The update may also help reduce costs associated with hosting livestreams, as the platform can save money by only supporting established audiences.
