Instagram will no longer support end-to-end encrypted messages starting May 8th. According to Meta, only “very few people” used this feature in their DMs, leading to its discontinuation.
Instead, users can opt for WhatsApp, which still offers end-to-end encrypted messaging. Instagram has started notifying impacted users and providing guidance on how to save E2EE chats and images before the feature is removed. This move follows global pressure on social platforms to enhance child safety features, including banning end-to-end encryption for minors in some countries.
