Instagram Introduces Reposts Feed, Snap Maps and More Features

Instagram is rolling out several new features that are reminiscent of its competitors, including TikTok and Snapchat. The platform has added a reposting feature similar to TikTok, allowing users to share content from other accounts in their own feed. Starting today, users can repost public Reels and grid posts from other accounts, with the content collected in a designated tab on their profile.

The platform is also introducing an opt-in location map that lives in your private messages, similar to Snapchat’s Snap Map. The map shows the last active location for friends who have opted in to the feature and pulls content from specific locations.

In addition, Instagram is updating its existing “Reels” tab that shows what Reels content friends have interacted with. Users will now be able to control how their interactions are displayed, hiding likes and reposts or muting other users’ interactions if they’re not interesting.

These new features aim to address long-standing complaints from users who feel the platform has become cluttered and less focused on its original function of sharing personal content. However, it’s unclear whether these changes will satisfy creators who have built a following on an older version of Instagram that no longer exists.
