Instagram Works on Improved Search and New iPad App

Instagram is addressing its poor searchability as part of efforts to compete with TikTok. According to Adam Mosseri, the platform’s head, improved search functionality will enable users to find content more easily. This comes ahead of a potential TikTok ban, which could impact ByteDance-owned CapCut.

To compete, Instagram has been developing a new video editing app called Edits, featuring non-linear editors, captions, and audio editing. The app is still in closed beta but may launch soon. A separate iPad app for Instagram is also in development, addressing the platform’s long-standing tablet UI issue.

The new app will provide users with an optimized experience, leveraging powerful hardware such as the Apple iPad Air M3. Improved searchability and Edits will cater to creators’ needs, allowing them to resurface content beyond the initial 24-48 hours.
