Intel 8th-10th Gen Processors Removed from Windows 11 CPU Support List

Microsoft has published its latest Windows 11 processor support lists, revealing that Intel’s 8th, 9th, and 10th Gen processors are no longer officially supported. The decision may be related to Intel’s recent move of 7th-10th Gen iGPUs to a legacy support model in December.

The latest version of Windows 11, version 24H2, now includes official support for newer Intel chips like Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake Core Ultra 200 parts. However, these processors are not included on the list. Instead, Microsoft has stated that new and upcoming processors built upon previous chips will be considered as supported, even if not explicitly listed.

This move comes as a surprise to some, considering the performance of Intel’s 8th-10th Gen processors. The Core i9-10900K, for example, was launched in 2020 and features high-performance capabilities. In contrast, the Celeron 6305, also launched in 2020, is included on the official support list.

Microsoft does not provide an explanation for its CPU support decisions, leaving room for speculation about the reasons behind this move. However, it is possible that Intel’s recent changes to its iGPU support model may be related to the decision.

In contrast, AMD processors have seen their Ryzen 8000 chips added to the official Windows 11 support list. Despite some minor errors in the initial release, Microsoft has acknowledged these corrections and will continue to add new processors to the list.

This move highlights the complexities of CPU support and the importance of understanding the implications for system builders and users. While it may not affect older systems or those using AMD processors, it could have significant consequences for those relying on Intel’s 8th-10th Gen processors.
