Intel’s New Battlemage GPUs Match Nvidia DLSS with Upscaling Tech

Intel has launched its second-gen gaming GPUs, codenamed Battlemage, starting with the Arc B580 and B570 graphics cards. While they’re currently targeting Nvidia’s low-end RTX 4060, these new GPUs boast impressive upscaling technology, rivaling Nvidia’s DLSS.

The key feature here is Intel’s XeSS 2, a second-gen upscaling tech that adds frame generation, making it comparable to Nvidia’s DLSS. This technology uses data from previous frames to generate interim frames, improving performance and image quality. In benchmark tests, the XeSS 2 boosts performance by 3.9x in F1 24 at 1440p.

Intel’s new GPUs also feature XeLL, a low latency mode that reduces latency to 32 ms, comparable to Nvidia’s Reflex tech. This means gamers can enjoy lower input lag and smoother gameplay.

While AMD’s FSR still lacks AI acceleration, Intel’s XMX cores give its GPUs an edge in this department. The Battlemage lineup is feature-complete and surpasses AMD’s non-AI gaming GPUs.

However, it’s unclear how well XeSS 2 will perform in practice, and its image quality will compare to Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR. Further testing and reviews are necessary to determine the true value of this new upscaling technology.
