Invisible Asteroids Lurking Near Venus Pose Threat to Earth

A new study has warned that at least three asteroids are lurking around our nearest planetary neighbor, Venus, and could strike Earth with little warning. The asteroids, measuring between 330 and 1,300 feet in diameter, have unstable orbits that bring them close to our planet.

The sun’s glare makes these asteroids nearly invisible as they orbit in sync with Venus, making detection impossible. NASA and other agencies track potentially hazardous asteroids, but those sharing Venus’ orbit remain hidden due to the sun’s brightness.

However, scientists suggest a space probe positioned near Venus could improve detection and give us advance warning of potential threats. The asteroids have the potential to unleash energy a million times greater than the Hiroshima bomb, leveling cities and triggering tsunamis in the worst-case scenario.

As our closest interplanetary neighbor, Venus is currently 62 million miles away from Earth, but its proximity poses a significant threat. With early detection and warning, we can take steps to mitigate this potential danger and protect our planet.
