iOS 18.2 Upgrades Camera Control with Visual Intelligence and Faster Camera Launch

Apple’s Camera Control feature has finally arrived in iOS 18.2, addressing mixed reviews from critics like the author. This new upgrade adds visual intelligence to the feature, unlocking a superpower that provides key information about the world around users.

Visual intelligence allows long-pressing Camera Control to reveal useful information such as restaurant hours or event details. Users can also quickly identify objects like dogs by breed and access specialized third-party tools for tasks like searching on Google or using ChatGPT’s problem-solving skills.

Another significant upgrade is the faster camera launcher, which now requires less steps. By visiting Settings > Display and Brightness, users can toggle “Require Screen On” off, allowing them to launch the Camera app even when the display is off.

The latest update also introduces a two-stage shutter feature with an AE/AF Lock toggle in Settings > Camera > Camera Control. This option enables users to lock focus and exposure with a light press, then take their photo by pressing harder. Additionally, users can control the speed of double-click actions in Accessibility > Camera Control settings.

The feature’s improvement has made it more useful than before, making the new dedicated button truly valuable. Users are now able to appreciate what Apple intended for the iPhone 16 from the start.
