Apple has introduced support for RCS messaging on its latest iOS update, allowing iPhone users to experience enhanced texting features with Android devices. With the introduction of iOS 18, users can now see read receipts, send larger files, and enjoy typing indicators – previously missing features from SMS.
Initially, only a few carriers supported RCS messaging. However, Apple has since expanded its list to include numerous mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs). As of now, over 40 carriers are listed as compatible with iOS 18.
Some notable exceptions include Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile, which have around 3 million subscribers in the US but do not yet support RCS messaging on their respective platforms.
Users can experience the new features by updating to iOS 18. If you’ve already upgraded and have questions or feedback about RCS messaging, join the discussion below.
