Apple is working on a new feature in iOS 26 that aims to make batteries last longer by making small performance adjustments. The “adaptive power” mode will lower screen brightness and slow down some activities to conserve battery life. When the battery reaches 20 percent, it may automatically enable Low Power Mode, which restricts background activities.
The feature uses battery data collected from users’ devices to determine which apps to lower power consumption on. Google’s Adaptive Battery feature for Android phones does something similar, using AI to analyze usage patterns and shut off lesser-used apps in the background.
The adaptive power toggle is currently available in the iOS 26 developer beta, alongside Low Power Mode in the Settings menu. Apple plans to roll out the beta to more users next month before releasing it widely this fall.
