Engineer Ken Pillonel has created a smartphone case that allows any iPhone model with a Lightning port to be converted to USB-C. This innovative solution enables older devices to remain functional in the modern era, where USB-C is the standard connection technology.
Pillonel’s goal is to extend the lifespan of these older devices by making them feel less obsolete. His case can support 20 phone models from the Lightning era and provides fast charging, full data transfers to computers and CarPlay, and more color options to be released in September.
The designer has previously tackled other projects, including Apple’s AirPods and AirPods Max. A video showcasing his design process is available for anyone interested in product engineering and design.
