Iran Court Attack Kills at Least Six Civilians

A jihadist separatist group, Jaish al-Adl, has carried out an attack on a courthouse in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province, killing at least six civilians and wounding 22 others. The attackers, who claimed responsibility for the assault, launched a second wave of violence using mortars and grenade launchers before clashing with security forces that lasted three hours.

Three gunmen were killed in the confrontation, according to Iranian state news agency reports. Several injured victims are in critical condition and have been transferred to local hospitals. Jaish al-Adl has claimed responsibility for the attack, urging civilians to evacuate the area “for their safety”.

The Sistan-Baluchestan province has seen an ongoing insurgency since 2003, driven by Islamic militant groups and separatists seeking autonomy for Iran’s Sunni Baluch minority. The Iranian government has designated Jaish al-Adl as a terrorist organization and accused Pakistan and Israel of backing the group.

This attack marks the latest in a series of violence perpetrated by Jaish al-Adl, which includes an earlier attack on a police station in December 2023, killing 11 people. The group’s alleged ties to foreign actors and involvement in smuggling operations have also been criticized by Iranian authorities.
