Iran’s Uranium Enrichment Sites Hit by IDF

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that two centrifuge production facilities in Iran, the TESA Karaj workshop and the Tehran Nuclear Research Center, were hit by Israel’s military forces.

This attack could severely set back Iran’s uranium enrichment program. The IAEA said that one building at the Tehran site, where advanced centrifuge rotors were manufactured and tested, was destroyed, while two buildings at the Karaj site, where different centrifuge components were manufactured, were also damaged.

The IDF had previously stated that it had struck dozens of Iranian nuclear sites, including additional uranium enrichment complexes. This is not the first time Israel has attacked the Karaj nuclear facility, which Iran accused the Mossad of destroying in 2021 using a drone.

Iran blocked access to information about its losses for over six months after the attack. However, an Institute for Science and International Security report from 2017 revealed that the TABA site near Karaj was used as a centrifuge manufacturing site. The report warned that Iran may be secretly making centrifuge rotor tubes and bellows at unknown locations in violation of the JCPOA.

The IAEA’s monitoring of Iran’s nuclear sites is an ongoing effort to ensure compliance with international agreements. The attack on these facilities could have significant implications for the future of Iran’s uranium enrichment program.
