Isar Aerospace Completes 1st Test Flight of Orbital Launch Vehicle

Private aerospace startup Isar Aerospace has successfully completed the first test flight of its orbital launch vehicle, Spectrum, from Norway. The 28-meter-long rocket lifted off from the island of Andøya in northern Norway and flew for about 30 seconds before being terminated.

The company’s chief executive, Daniel Metzler, described the flight as a “great success,” citing a clean liftoff and validation of the Flight Termination System. Isar Aerospace aimed to collect data and experience on its first integrated test of all systems.

The launch was subject to weather conditions, including unfavorable winds that led to two previous attempts being scrubbed. The company had set realistic expectations for this initial flight, considering a 30-second flight as a success.
