Isiah Pacheco Looks to Bulk Up for Next Season

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco is approaching the offseason with a different mindset than his teammates. While some players focus on losing weight, Pacheco is adding bulk to better withstand the physical toll of NFL seasons. The fourth-year back fractured his fibula in Week 2 last season and never quite felt like himself due to a loss of playing weight during rehab.

Pacheco is currently listed at 216 pounds, up from his ideal playing weight. Head coach Andy Reid has taken notice, praising Pacheco’s new physique, saying he “looks tremendous right now.” The added weight has been motivated by the fact that this offseason marks Pacheco’s first without defending a Super Bowl title.

Growing up in New Jersey, Pacheco is often questioned about his allegiance to the Chiefs. To prove himself, he has used this as motivation to work harder and improve physically and mentally. Now entering the season healthy and stronger, Pacheco aims to reestablish himself as a vital piece of Kansas City’s offense. “I feel great,” he said. “My mental toughness is good, my physical toughness is awesome. I’m just happy.”
