Israel Accused of Genocide in Gaza by Leading Human Rights Groups

Two leading Israeli human rights groups, B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights Israel, have accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. The accusations come after a report titled “Our Genocide” found that Israel’s policies in the Gaza Strip are intentionally destroying Palestinian society.

The report says that Israel’s actions are the textbook definition of genocide, with catastrophic consequences including massive killing of civilians, mass starvation, and destruction of cities. The groups call for the international community to take action to stop this, citing a genocidal regime and a grave risk that the genocide will spread to other areas where Palestinians live under Israeli control.

B’Tselem’s outreach director Sarit Michaeli said that the report is based on witness testimonies and credible information from multiple sources, including statements by Israeli policymakers. She explained that the report looks at not only the reality on the ground but also at the root causes of this Israeli genocide, including a trigger event in October 2023.

The accusations come amid increasing tensions in the region, with recent incidents such as an Israeli settler shooting and killing a Palestinian activist in the occupied West Bank. The incident highlights the lack of consequences for those involved in settler violence and international inaction to stop it.

B’Tselem’s report emphasizes that the situation is not just about Gaza but also about the entire occupation, including the West Bank. The group calls on Israelis and the international community to take action to stop the genocide now.
