Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced a new “Morag Corridor” aimed at cutting off the southern city of Rafah from the rest of Gaza. The corridor is part of Israel’s efforts to increase pressure on Hamas, which he believes will lead to the release of Israeli hostages.
Netanyahu stated that the corridor would cut through the strip, increasing pressure on Hamas until it releases its remaining hostages and disarms. His defense minister has also confirmed plans to seize large areas of Gaza and add them to security zones.
The move comes as Israel reasserts control over a northern Netzarim corridor since last month’s surprise bombardment. Israel has pledged to escalate the fighting with Hamas until the militant group releases its remaining hostages, halts supplies of food, fuel, and humanitarian aid, and agrees to a lasting ceasefire.
Hamas rejects these demands, saying it will only release hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoner releases and an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The war in Gaza began after Hamas militants attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 civilians, with 59 hostages remaining.
New footage has emerged contradicting the Israeli account of the killing of Palestinian medics, showing emergency vehicles approaching the scene despite initial claims they had no emergency signals on. This raises questions about the Israeli military’s actions and its willingness to cooperate with UN investigations.
