Israel has killed two Palestinian journalists in separate attacks in Gaza, bringing the total number of press workers killed in the territory since October 2023 to 208. Palestine Today correspondent Mohammad Mansour was killed in an air strike north of Khan Younis, while Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent Hussam Shabat was hit by shrapnel in his car in the northern enclave.
The Gaza Strip’s Government Media Office condemned the attacks on Palestinian journalists “in the strongest terms”. The Committee to Protect Journalists stated that this period has been the deadliest for journalists since its data collection began three decades ago.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue their ground assault in the Gaza Strip. Thousands of Palestinians are trapped in the Tel al-Sultan neighbourhood in Rafah with limited access to food and water. The wounded are left without treatment, while civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, face intense bombardment with no escape options.
Red Crescent ambulances were surrounded by Israeli forces on Sunday morning, releasing one crew member but leaving the other’s fate unknown. Over 50,000 Palestinians remain trapped in the area, subject to severe humanitarian conditions.
