A series of explosions on three parked buses in central Israel’s Bat Yam city has rattled the region, but no injuries were reported. The suspected militant attack bears resemblance to bombings during the 2000s Palestinian uprising. Explosives on two other buses did not detonate.
Israeli police have identified five identical bombs with timers and are defusing unexploded devices. Investigators are searching for evidence at the scene. City officials say it’s a miracle no one was hurt, as buses were parked after finishing their routes.
The head of the bus company has ordered thorough inspections on all vehicles. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office is receiving updates on the situation. The Shin Bet internal security agency is leading the investigation into whether one or multiple suspects placed explosives on the buses.
