Israel’s military operation in the north of the occupied West Bank continued on Sunday, with “several buildings” destroyed near Jenin. The crackdown comes as Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu prepares to meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
Trump stated that discussions on Middle East peace are progressing, ahead of talks on a Gaza ceasefire. However, tensions between Israel and Hamas remain high, with Hamas calling for an “escalation in resistance” against Israeli military operations.
At least 50 militants were killed by the Israeli military during the operation, which targeted buildings used as terrorist infrastructure. The Palestinian Authority condemned the destruction, describing it as “brutal”.
The US, Qatar, and Egypt are set to engage in negotiations on a Gaza ceasefire deal, with hundreds of thousands of Gazans receiving medical supplies and food since the ceasefire came into effect.
Meanwhile, a criminal investigation has been launched into Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, over allegations of tampering in her husband’s corruption trial.
