Israel is considering directing additional military resources to Yemen’s Houthi leadership in an effort to cripple their ability to operate, according to former Israeli officials. The move comes as Israel and Hamas near a hostages-for-cease-fire deal in the Gaza Strip, while a truce with Hezbollah in Lebanon largely holds.
Retired Major General Amos Yadlin, former head of Israeli Military Intelligence, told Fox News Digital that targeting Houthi leaders is an option if there is good intelligence to support such operations. He suggested that taking out key figures could lead to a decapitation of the group’s leadership and ultimately cripple their ability to launch attacks.
Israel has launched dozens of strikes in Yemen’s Hodeidah Port and Bab-el-Mandeb region since the Houthis began launching missiles and drones at Israel last year. The Houthis have fired over 200 missiles and 170 drones at Israel, targeting commercial vessels and other areas.
Former Israeli national security adviser Eyal Hulata said that Israel needs to understand what would cripple the Houthis’ ability to operate, emphasizing the need for more intelligence and assessments. “For this, we need to understand more deeply what it is that would cripple the Houhis’ ability to operate,” he said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has urged Israelis to be patient while intimating that Jerusalem is preparing to increase the intensity of its campaign against the Houthis. He vowed to take forceful and determined action against the group, similar to what Israel has done against Iran’s “axis of evil.”
