Israel Intercepts Yemen Missile Amid US airstrikes Against Houthis

Israel said it has intercepted a missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, which also targeted its air base. The strike comes as the US continues to pound Houthi-held areas with airstrikes.

The incident occurred early Sunday, with sirens sounding in parts of Israel near the Dead Sea. The military confirmed that the missile was shot down before it crossed into Israeli territory.

Houthi spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it targeted Israel’s Nevatim air base with a hypersonic missile. The US has been targeting the Houthis since March 15 due to their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and on Israel.

The airstrikes have resulted in significant casualties, including at least two killed and 10 wounded in Sanaa. The US campaign has been ongoing for over a month, with little information released about the targets or toll of the strikes.

A recent strike on April 18 killed at least 74 people and wounded 171 others in Ras Isa fuel port, making it one of the deadliest attacks in the American campaign.
