Israel Kills Hamas Commander in Lebanon Airstrike

Israel launched an airstrike on southern Lebanon, killing a Hamas commander named Hassan Farhat and his two children. The strike occurred in the city of Sidon, where Farhat was based.

Farhat was identified as the target after being linked to a rocket attack on the Israeli city of Safed last year that killed several soldiers. Israel has vowed to take action against Hamas fighters operating anywhere in Lebanon.

The attack came amid increased tensions over a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, which controls southern Lebanon. The ceasefire, agreed upon by the US, was tested further as Hezbollah accused Israel of violating it.

Hezbollah condemned the strike, saying it demonstrated Israel’s intent to expand its aggression into all of Lebanon. The group has denied involvement in recent rocket attacks from Lebanon towards Israel.

The situation is precarious, with both sides accusing each other of breaching the ceasefire agreement. The US backs Israel, but also urged restraint, blaming “terrorists” for the renewed hostilities.
