Israel has issued new forced displacement orders for residents in the Nuseirat camp’s Block 662, instructing them to flee their shelters due to rocket launches by Palestinian fighters. The move is part of a broader Israeli military operation in the region, which has seen over 90% of Gaza’s two million people displaced since Israel’s three-month-long operation began.
The UN reports that nearly 80.5% of Gaza’s territory is under active evacuation orders, with many residents living in cramped and unsanitary conditions. The Israeli military has declared areas a “safe zone” but regularly launches attacks on these zones, including an attack last week that killed the head of Gaza’s police force.
The Palestinian Authority’s security forces have imposed a siege on the Jenin refugee camp, preventing entry to food and medical supplies. The operation began in December after arrests were made by the PA and clashes with the PA’s forces resulted in injuries.
The situation continues to deteriorate, with reports of Israeli attacks on schools-turned-shelters, hospitals, and residential areas. Human rights organizations have condemned the conditions in which Palestinians are being held captive, citing accounts of chained detainees in underground cells.
As tensions escalate, envoys from the US, UK, and Germany joined a rally in Tel Aviv to urge Hamas to release captives in Gaza. The US and European officials called for negotiations to succeed, emphasizing the importance of releasing hostages to bring an end to the conflict.
