Israel Resumes Humanitarian Aid to Gaza Amid International Pressure

The Israeli Security Cabinet decided on Sunday to immediately resume humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza through existing channels until a new mechanism starts working, according to senior officials. The decision comes after international pressure from the US and European countries demanding that Israel act.

President Trump had previously stated that Palestinian civilians in Gaza were starving. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which developed the new aid mechanism, announced last week that Israel agreed to renew humanitarian aid delivery using existing mechanisms until a new arrangement is in place.

The GHF’s executive director, Jake Wood, welcomed the Israeli Security Cabinet’s approval, stating that the resumption of aid marks an “important interim step.” He emphasized the need for collaboration among the aid community to deliver life-saving assistance without delay or diversion.

Israel has been blocking humanitarian aid delivery since the ceasefire broke down two months ago. The decision to resume aid includes food and medicine, which will be delivered through international organizations such as the UN World Food Programme and World Central Kitchen. The aid will be monitored by these organizations to ensure its safe distribution.

The resumption of humanitarian aid is a significant development amid rising tensions between Israel and Hamas. A new aid mechanism operated through GHF and American private contractors is expected to start functioning on May 24, but the exact details of the arrangement remain unclear.

International leaders have welcomed the decision, with some expressing concern over the lack of a comprehensive plan for long-term humanitarian assistance. The UN has warned that food supplies will run out within days if no aid is delivered immediately.
