Israel Says Missile Intercepted from Yemen Amid US Strikes Against Houthi Rebels

Israel’s military said it intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, as the US launched intense air strikes in the country targeting sites held by Houthi rebels. Air raid sirens were activated across multiple areas of Israel on Sunday after the missile was launched.

The conflict has been ongoing since October 7, 2023, with the Houthis firing missiles at Israel and targeting shipping vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The group claims to be acting in solidarity with Palestinians.

On Thursday, the Houthis said they had launched two missiles towards Ben Gurion airport and an unspecified military target in Tel Aviv. However, they have not yet responded to Israel’s latest claim of a missile intercept.

The US began its campaign of air strikes against Yemen on March 15, killing dozens of people and injuring several others. The strikes have targeted sites controlled by the Houthis, including the capital Sanaa. The group has blamed the US for any attacks they undertake, with Iran reportedly backing them.

In response to the US strikes, the Houthis targeted warships in the Red Sea, including the USS Harry S Truman aircraft carrier.
