Israel Says Raids Missile Plant in Syria for Hezbollah

Israel’s military confirmed on Thursday that its special forces raided an underground missile production site in Syria in September, which it says was designed to produce hundreds of precision missiles for use against Israel by the Iranian-backed Hezbollah.

The facility, located near Masyaf and the Mediterranean coast, had been under observation since 2017. Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani described it as “the flagship of Iranian manufacturing efforts” in the region.

According to Shoshani, the plant was capable of producing precision-guided missiles with a range of up to 300 km. The military’s nighttime raid involved dozens of aircraft and around 100 troops, who dismantled the facility and its equipment after completing the operation.

The raid comes as part of Israel’s efforts to prevent Iranian-backed Hezbollah from receiving arms. Israeli officials have accused the former Syrian government of helping Hezbollah receive arms from Iran. The Syrian state media reported that at least 16 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes during the raid.

Israel’s military operation was hailed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who described it as one of the most important preventative operations against the Iranian axis.
