Israel strike kills nine of Gaza doctor’s children in Khan Younis

An Israeli air strike on Gaza’s city of Khan Younis has killed nine children of a doctor who works at the local Nasser hospital. The victims are all from Dr Alaa al-Najjar’s family, including her 12-year-old eldest child.

The strike occurred minutes after her husband returned home from taking their wife to work. Her husband and another doctor were also injured in the attack. A British surgeon who operated on the surviving 11-year-old son said it was “unbearably cruel” that Dr al-Najjar could lose almost all of her children.

The Israeli military has stated that its aircraft struck a number of suspects operating from an adjacent structure to IDF troops. However, the claim regarding harm to uninvolved civilians is under review.

This attack comes amid concerns over humanitarian aid to Gaza. The UN has repeatedly said that more aid is needed for Gaza’s 2.1 million people, who are at risk of famine and malnutrition.

In a statement, Dr Alaa al-Najjar pleaded with countries to show mercy on the people of Gaza, saying they were exhausted from displacement and hunger.
