Israel launched a surprise bombing attack on Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh, killing at least four people and wounding seven others. The attack comes just three days after the country was hit by Israeli forces for the first time since a November truce.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed that four people were killed, including a woman, while seven others were injured. Israel’s military claimed the attack targeted Hassan Bdeir, a Hezbollah unit member and Iran’s Quds Force member assisting Hamas in planning a terror attack against Israeli civilians. However, evidence for this claim was not provided.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the assault as a “dangerous warning” of Israel’s intentions. He called on the international community to support Lebanon’s sovereignty over its land.
The latest attack raises concerns about the fragility of the truce and the possibility of further conflict. Analysts blame the US for enabling Israel’s attacks, saying the Trump administration has not criticized Israel and continues to provide it with weapons that enable its aggression.
A fragile ceasefire in place since November is under threat, and analysts warn that any escalation could lead to a new war.
