Israel Strikes Gaza, Killing 10 at Shelter

Israeli air strikes on a school sheltering displaced families in Gaza killed 10 people, with Israel claiming it targeted militants operating within the complex. The attack is part of a month-long escalation of violence that has killed over 1,600 Palestinians and displaced hundreds of thousands.

The Israeli military said Hamas and allied group Islamic Jihad were operating from the Yaffa School in Gaza City, prompting the strike. However, medics described the scene as chaotic, with tents and classrooms set on fire and people searching for their belongings.

Germany, France, and Britain have urged Israel to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, which they say is near collapse due to the Israeli blockade. The foreign ministers of these countries called for an end to the violence and the release of remaining hostages held by Hamas.

Israel has rejected these demands, saying that there is no shortage of aid in Gaza despite reports of shortages. The Gaza Health Ministry reported at least 36 people killed in Israeli strikes on Wednesday, with another strike damaging a children’s hospital.

The conflict has been ongoing since a January ceasefire collapsed, and Israel has imposed a blockade on all goods into Gaza, including fuel and electricity. This blockade is aimed at pressuring Hamas militants to release the remaining hostages captured during an October 2023 attack.
