An Israeli airstrike in a post office in central Gaza Strip killed at least 30 Palestinians and wounded 50 others, bringing the death toll to 66. The strike targeted a postal facility where displaced families had sought refuge.
The conflict has been ongoing for 14 months, with both sides accusing each other of disrupting aid delivery and attempting to hijack humanitarian aid trucks. Hamas said Israeli military strikes have killed at least 700 police tasked with securing aid trucks in Gaza since the war began.
The UN General Assembly recently voted to demand an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages seized by Hamas in Israel. However, ceasefire efforts by Arab mediators and other parties have failed to conclude a deal between the two warring sides.
The Israeli military has levelled swathes of Gaza, driving nearly all of its 2.3 million people from their homes, giving rise to deadly hunger and disease, and killing over 44,800 people according to Palestinian health authorities.
