Israel Strikes Hezbollah ‘Drone Factories’ in Lebanon

Israel launched airstrikes on Hezbollah “drone factories” in southern Lebanon and the suburbs of Beirut, sparking widespread panic and evacuations. The attacks marked a significant escalation in Israel’s military activity in the region since a US-brokered ceasefire agreement was reached in November.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) targeted alleged “underground UAV production facilities” controlled by Hezbollah, with warning strikes issued to residents in advance. However, no initial reports of casualties have been confirmed, and the Lebanese government has condemned the attacks as a “blatant violation” of international law.

Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam called for calm, but Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz insisted that security for Israel must be prioritized. The clashes come as Lebanon prepares to celebrate Eid al-Adha on Friday, with many residents evacuated from their homes in the city’s south.

The situation has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the ceasefire agreement, which includes disarmament efforts against groups like Hezbollah and Palestinian factions. Last week, the government reported dismantling 500 pieces of weaponry north of the Litani river.
