Israel launched missile strikes on Tuesday against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, targeting ports and other facilities. The attacks came in response to a suspected Houthi attack on a Liberian-flagged ship in the Red Sea.
The Israeli military said it was targeting vessels used by the Houthis to transfer weapons from Iran for terrorist operations against Israel and its allies. The Houthis have not claimed responsibility for the attack.
In retaliation, the Houthis fired back with their own missiles, but reported no casualties from Israel’s attack.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned of further strikes if Houthi aggression continues in the Red Sea or elsewhere. He said anyone who raises a hand against Israel will be punished.
The US military has previously stated that Iran is the number one reason why the Houthis remain a threat, and that without Iranian support, the group would collapse. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are set to meet at the White House on Tuesday to discuss Gaza and other issues.
