Israel Strikes Lebanon After Hezbollah Fire Exchanges

Israel has launched its largest wave of airstrikes across Lebanon since agreeing to a ceasefire with Hezbollah last week, killing at least 11 people. The strikes came after Hezbollah fired projectiles towards Mount Dov, a disputed territory between Lebanon and Israel.

Hezbollah said it fired on an Israeli military position as a “defensive and warning response” to what it called “repeated violations” of the ceasefire deal by Israel. However, Israel claims its strikes were in response to unspecified Hezbollah violations.

The 60-day ceasefire aimed to end over a year of conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, part of a wider regional conflict sparked by an Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. President-elect Donald Trump demanded the immediate release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.

In Gaza, hunger is mounting, with alarm growing over decreasing food supplies allowed into the territory. The amount of aid has plunged over the past two months due to threats from armed gangs. Displaced families are struggling, relying on international aid and makeshift bread made from scarce flour.

Lebanese officials say Israel has violated the ceasefire more than 50 times in recent days, launching airstrikes and demolishing homes near the border. The US says the ceasefire is holding, but experts warn of famine in Gaza if the situation worsens.
