Israel Strikes Lebanon Over Hezbollah Rocket Fire

Israel’s military launched multiple airstrikes on Saturday, targeting suspected Hezbollah sites in Lebanon. At least seven people were killed, including a child, and 40 others injured. The strikes came after Hezbollah fired rockets toward Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the attacks, saying the Lebanese government was responsible for everything that happened on its territory. The day’s barrages mark the most significant eruption of violence between Israel and Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah since a ceasefire brought uneasy calm to the border.

Hezbollah has denied any involvement in the rocket fire, accusing Israel of using it as a pretext to attack Lebanon. The Lebanese military found and dismantled three primitive rocket launchers in the area north of the Litani River.

A shaky truce between Israel and Hezbollah had held since November last year, but tensions have been rising again after Israel restarted military operations in Gaza earlier this week. The region is also reeling from a fragile truce in the Palestinian enclave that has largely held since January.
