Israel launched its latest strikes on Syrian military sites, targeting weapons depots and air defenses, according to a monitoring group. The strikes marked the fourth time this week that Israel has attacked Syria since the collapse of the Assad regime.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Israel had struck 75 times in attacks that began near Damascus and Hama cities, with no immediate reports of casualties. This brings the total number of Israeli strikes on Syria to over 450 times since the regime change last week.
Israeli forces have also occupied an area along the de facto border between Israel and Syria, including parts of strategic Mt. Hermon. The occupation has raised concerns about potential security threats from extremist groups.
Rebel coalition leader Ahmed al-Shara criticized Israel’s actions, saying it used pretexts to justify territorial seizures in Syria. However, he emphasized that Syria cannot afford further conflict, with a focus on reconstruction and reconciliation.
Russian military presence in Syria remains uncertain, as Moscow discussed its future role with the current leadership. Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler stated that Russia would not leave the country.
Meanwhile, Syrian authorities announced the reopening of schools and universities, amidst efforts to re-establish security and public services. However, sectarian tensions between Sunni Muslims and minorities continue to pose challenges for the new administration.
