Israel to Release Bodies of Four Hostages from Gaza

Israel’s Hostages and Missing Families Forum confirmed on Wednesday that Shiri Bibas and her two young children, Ariel and Kfir, along with Oded Lifshitz, will be released deceased from Gaza on Thursday. The news was met with sadness and grief from families worldwide.

Oded Lifshitz, 83, was kidnapped from his home in October 2023, while Shiri Bibas, 32, was taken alive four months later. Their families had hoped for a different outcome, but the decision to release their bodies is intended to bring closure.

The Bibas family expressed anger at the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office for releasing their loved ones’ names without approval. However, the IDF has apologized for the mistake and spoken with the families.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the country is grieving and in pain but will continue to work towards preventing such incidents in the future. With 69 abductees still being held captive by Hamas, negotiations are ongoing, and decision-makers are urged to expedite a resolution.

The releases mark the first handover of dead hostages since a ceasefire deal with Hamas went into effect in January. The country is preparing for an emotionally charged day ahead as it welcomes back four of its beloved hostages.
